Ivan Martinez - Secretar/Treasurer My first introduction to the art of photography was in high school in Venezuela where I was born. One of the faculty members, Colonel Martinez, loved photography and created a small photography club. We met once a week to go over the fundamentals of capturing developing an image. We did not have very much to work with as far as equipment went; but we had a great deal of interest and curiosity about making pictures. That love for the craft stayed with me through the years. Every time I could, I would be taking pictures. In college I took 2 years of photography as electives. I was putting twice as much time in the dark room as I was putting on my business and marketing classes. I eventually had to put photography on hold so I could complete my business and marketing education. Photography through the years was a hobby. After close to 20 years of working in corporate America, in advertising sales and new media, I decided to start my own business and pursue photography as a profession. I have relied on organizations such as AZPPA to expand my knowledge of the photography business and improve my craft. I have also had the privilege to work and learn from several established photographers. The knowledge and encouragement I have received from other photographers have helped me get to where I am today. I look forward to being part of the board and to contribute to the organization that has been very helpful on my development as a professional photographer. ivan@ivanmartinezphotography.com 602-708-0136 ivanmartinezphotography.com |

Wendy Newman - Past President (again! Thank you Wendy!) I feel so blessed to have been given such a special gift to share with others--PHOTOGRAPHY. Like so many professional photographers, I do not hold a formal 'degree' in photography. My short transition from amateur to professional photographer was a direct result of my passion, formal education, and prior sales career. A formal degree in Graphic Design and Marketing combined with a background in professional sales (with Procter and Gamble) truly prepared me for the roles I am privileged to play each day: professional photographer and small business owner. My involvement in the AzPPA and PPA have also been invaluable to my growth and development as a professional photographer and business owner. I would not be even half as successful if it weren’t for the people I have met and the things I have learned through these associations. wendy@wnewmanportraits.com 602-908-0359 http://www.wnewmanportraits.com |

Sheryl Scott CPP, but please just call me Sherry. I was the family photographer when I was a child and my parents always supplied me with a camera and film when we went on vacation. My first full time job was selling cameras and taking in processing, and as time passed my passion for photography grew. After my husband and I got married I took my initial photography training at the University of Tennessee, after which my husband bought me my first medium format camera. When we moved to AZ I continued my love of photography, documenting our children’s lives as they grew up. I photographed my babies every week the first year of their lives, so that my family back home in Tennessee could see them grow. Then I made friends with a gal who did wedding photography, she used to ask me technical questions about photography and eventually said, “You should be a wedding photographer, too!” Well, I did. I made friends with a couple who were photographers and members of the Phoenix Professional Photographers, and they invited me to come along to the meetings. Well, I’ve been a member of the Phoenix, now Arizona Professional Photographers, ever since. Since joining the group I have enjoyed the friendship of many excellent photographers, and I especially appreciate their willingness to help each other out. I myself received help with my CPP examination by studying with a group of AZPPA photographers. I first thought I would just go to the CPP meetings to brush up on my photography knowledge. Then when it came time for the test everyone encouraged me to “go ahead take the test!” Which I did and I PASSED!! I have been a Certified Professional Photographer for thirteen years. I can definitely say that my successes in photography have been supported by the education and development efforts of the AZPPA and PPA. I feel privileged to serve as a board member and I am happy to be of help wherever I can. Sherry@keepsakephotographybysherry.com 623-979-2854 www.keepsakephotographybysherry.com |

Sara Goodnick - Sara has been involved with photography since 1975, captivated by seeing prints come to life in her father's darkroom. At the time, though, horses were her #1 passion, and she made them her career; first becoming a certified horseback riding instructor, then purchasing a horse boarding stable in Oregon. Moving to Arizona in 1996, she went after her other dream-a career in photography. Discovering AZPPA was a godsend. The AZPPA professional photographers who are willing to share their knowledge, as well as access to classes, seminars, studio tours, and lectures, has been instrumental in her professional development. She still keeps horses at her home (and studio) in Goldfield Ranch, near Fountain Hills, and rides regularly-often with a camera in her saddlebag. shgoodnick@prodogy.net 602-881-2574 goodnickphotography.com |

Allen Patrou – CPP I have always been interested in art and found that I could best express this through my photography since my teen years. I have been working with digital photography since around the time Photoshop 5 came out and have never looked back. Most of my background in photography comes from countless classes and workshops over the years and many hours of trial and error in all phases of photography, posing, lighting, and editing of various projects. I recently added a portrait studio to my home and continue to learn and grow as I strive to build a business in portrait photography. I have had some successes with two Kodak Gallery awards, two Fuji Masterpiece awards, a national magazine cover and national charity calendar, but it’s a never ending learning curve and growing process. We can all learn and grow best by helping each other whenever we can. So I am here to help you and to try and absorb as much as possible from those who may be ahead of me. Please don’t hesitate to ask if there is something I can help you with. Sharing is always fun. info@apatrouphotography.com 602-821-5307 www.apatrouphotography.com |

Clerissa Hicks "I have actually been in and out of the photography since 1999. I had four years in school and four years in the studio. Believe it or not I feel like I've learned more in the last 12 months from the AZPPA than in all my years of training. I have gained more technical skills and real world application than I could have dreamed, and at such little cost to me! I'm realistic enough to know that I have a lot more to learn. But in the meantime, I would like to give back to an association that I truly respect as well as the people who I feel have helped me so much." Photography By Clerissa |

Melinda Kolker – After about 10 years of working in information technology departments for various health insurance companies, I discovered life art. I loved the idea of adding stories to the images I was creating. After a few years of taking photography classes and reading photography and art books, more and more people at work were questioning why I was in such a technical and corporate job when it was clear that I needed to be creative. I enrolled in a graphic design program at the Art Institute of Phoenix and eventually figured out that what I really wanted was to create images and use my graphic design skills to take them to the next level. I joined AZPPA and opened byMelinda Images & Design in 2008. I have learned so much through AZPPA and PPA sponsored training and events. I can’t imagine how photographers can get their businesses off the ground without the support of AZPPA and its member community. bymelinda@cox.net |
